We welcome referrals from any organisation working with people who live in Sheffield.
We will provide one to one tuition in a person’s home or a safe place if they are not able to attend an English class.
This may be due to health conditions (physical or mental), care responsibilities – young child or adult, or that their level of English is not enough for them to benefit from attending a class.
We work with all women, men, people who have been in the UK a long time as well as new arrivals (refugees, asylum seekers and victims of modern-day slavery), regardless of their status.
All our tutors undergo DBS (criminal record) checks and are trained in safeguarding issues and policies.
- Looking for the ESOL Directory?
The ESOL Directory lists all ESOL courses, classes and conversation groups in the city, by area, (please note that this is only updated once a term and may not include every provision).
The ESOL helps organisations working with English Language learners to identify and access appropriate classes or groups in the city and can be found here.
If you would like your provision to be included in the Directory, please contact SAVTE.
- Referral Process
Online referral form
If you are an organisation, please complete an online referral form Online Referral Form here.
Please provide as much detail as possible so that we can assess the learner as quickly as possible and ensure that they receive the most appropriate English language provision.
At the point of referral, please let the learner know that there is a waiting list and that SAVTE will contact the learner directly to arrange a visit either in their home or another suitable place to assess both their language ability and other needs.
Learners will either be allocated to tutor to teach them in their homes or a place in a class or conversation group.
We will let all referrers know the outcome of the referral.
