When I started Volunteering for SAVTE:
When I moved back to Sheffield in August 2021, I knew I wanted to start volunteering in a field related to my work – I am an ESOL teacher and I love teaching and helping others learn English. I signed up to volunteer for SAVTE and completed the extremely comprehensive training course in November.

 What drew you to ESOL:
I worked as an English Language assistant in France and India – that got me interested in teaching, so I completed my CELTA teaching qualification in Sheffield and grew to love teaching. I taught in China and Italy before moving back to Sheffield after the pandemic.

How did you come to work for SAVTE:
Having worked in ESOL for five years, I was keen to try something new but stay within the world of ESOL. I love helping people and thought this role would give me an opportunity to help people integrate into their community in Sheffield through learning English.

What is the best thing about my job:
Seeing and hearing people’s gratitude first-hand about the support they’ve received.

What do you like about Sheffield:
The people – everyone is so friendly. It’s a beautiful city to live in and there’s always so much to do. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else!
