I started volunteering for SAVTE in 2021 and ran a very popular conversation club of 28 learners, in Darnall attended by mostly women from ethnically diverse backgrounds.

I have a teaching background, working as an ESOL and Family learning tutor for Sheffield City Council, for the last 3 years and over 10 years in education. Born in the UK to Pakistani migrant parents, I am aware of the challenges migration presents and can understand the social and cultural barriers to accessing English language support and being part of the community and achieving one’s goals. I speak 4 languages – English, Urdu, Punjabi and Arabic and have lots of experience in community engagement. I love reading, cycling, walking and socialising with family and friends, and cooking with my 4 teenage children.I admire everything SAVTE-Convo stands for – everyone is so welcoming! So, in 2023 I was delighted to take the next step to be a trustee and be part of its continued success and development as the hidden gem of Sheffield.
