Dareen Assaf

Language Support Link Worker

I joined the wonderful team at SAVTE in December 2024 as a Language Support Link Worker. In this role, I provide guidance and support to both the dedicated volunteers and the diverse learners we serve, helping to break down language barriers and foster stronger community connections.

My journey to SAVTE was paved by a deep-rooted passion for language education and empowering others, which I cultivated through an extensive background in higher education and research. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to lecture, coordinate language programs, and mentor students at various institutions in Syria and the UK. These experiences opened my eyes to the truly transformative impact that language skills can have on individuals’ lives.

Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to contribute to several meaningful initiatives. Some highlights include establishing the English program at Syrian Private University, training academic staff at Arab International University, and collaborating on transnational education projects aimed at making learning more accessible. I’ve also had the privilege of presenting my research at international conferences, exploring topics such as overcoming barriers in education.

Now, at SAVTE, I’m excited to apply my expertise in curriculum development, teaching, and project management to support our learners’ and volunteers’ growth and success. Being part of an organization that works tirelessly to break down language barriers and enable people to connect with their community is incredibly fulfilling, and I’m proud to contribute to this vital mission.

When I’m not at work, you can usually find me enjoying a good movie, exploring Sheffield’s green spaces on long walks, and continuously striving to learn and grow both personally and professionally. Feel free to say hello if our paths cross!
