Language Support Link Worker

My teaching journey began in Mexico, where I taught English as a Foreign Language to children, teenagers and adults. I enjoyed sharing my passion for language learning and helping students improve their English so they could access better opportunities. To expand my knowledge of teaching and life, I was fortunate to win a scholarship to study abroad and chose Sheffield because of its greenery and welcoming atmosphere. After completing my MA in Applied Linguistics with TESOL at the University of Sheffield, I joined SAVTE as a volunteer in September 2020, providing one-to-one
online English language support for learners who were unable to access mainstream classes. I fell in love with SAVTE’s mission to help learners improve their English and integrate into the community, so I became involved in facilitating conversation groups, working with mixed-level learners in informal settings, both online and face to face. I enjoyed helping learners from different parts of the world practise English, share experiences and build their confidence.
I’m really excited to be part of SAVTE and to help people gain the language skills, confidence and independence they need to participate more fully in everyday life. I enjoy designing materials, meeting and working with people from different backgrounds, and I find it very rewarding to see learners grow in confidence over time. In my free time, you will usually find me reading, watching Formula 1, going
for walks, or trying to pet all the cats and dogs I see.
