Language Support Link Worker
Moving back to Sheffield in 2022 after many years of living and working as a Primary School teacher and SENDCO in Leeds, enabled me to have time to pursue my own interests and I began volunteering for SAVTE in June 2023. I was immediately impressed by the both the team who work at SAVTE and the wonderful volunteers I met – everyone works so well together for the good of our SAVTE learners. SAVTE helped me to understand the real need to provide English Language support to the many people living in our city who, without an understanding of the English language and an ability to communicate, can find life so challenging.
I was so impressed with the training and support that I received as a volunteer teacher, that I decided to apply for a role at SAVTE and I was thrilled to begin working as a Link Worker, providing support and guidance to both volunteers and learners in September 2023. I am really enjoying the challenges of my new role and hope that my skills and understanding gained in the Education sector, will help me to succeed and improve the lives of our learners.
I’m fortunate to have great friends and a lovely family and love to spend time with them all. My bearded collie is also a huge part of my life and he has recently qualified as a therapy dog – so I’m looking forward to visiting the Children’s hospital with him very soon – hopefully to bring smiles to the faces of the children! I love the sea – and if I wasn’t happy living in Sheffield, then you may find me swimming, reading and practising yoga somewhere in Cornwall!
