Online Conversation Groups

Our online conversation groups happen at different times and days of the week. They are a good way to meet other people as well as practice speaking and listening.

To join a group, you will need a smart device and be able to use WhatsApp or Zoom.

We want you to have a good experience in the group, you will need to be able to have a simple conversation or reach Entry Level 3.
Please complete this simple learner form and SAVTE will contact you to allocate you a place when they become available.

Volunteer Support someone with their English, help reduce social isolation and make a difference!
See our volunteer page for more information about language volunteers and how they make a difference.
During Coronavirus, most of our English support is being done remotely via the internet. We are looking for new volunteers who are keen to support learners via WhatsApp video, Zoom, or Facebook Messenger.

Low-level learners are placed either individually or in pairs with a volunteer. Improver-level learners are placed in conversation groups. Volunteers are needed to support any of these combinations.

We provide training, resources expenses and in some cases, equipment to help you develop skills and confidence to support learners via the Internet.

Depending on Social Distancing restrictions – some of our volunteers have planned walks or meet-ups in parks to help reduce social isolation.

APPLY to Volunteer Online

Are you IT literate, patient, sensitive with an interest in other cultures, and have a spare hour a week for the next 6 months?  You don’t need teaching experience or to speak other languages. We only ask that volunteers have reached ESOL Level 2 with their English.

We run a number of training courses throughout the year and will contact you before the next available course.

To apply as a volunteer, please complete this volunteering form and we will be in touch with you about the next available course.

If you experience any issues completing the volunteer application form, please contact savte@savte.org.uk or call SAVTE on 0114 212 3050

We will train you to:
• Prepare English language support sessions (either 1:1, 1:2 or conversation groups)
• Use appropriate internet-based resources to deliver sessions
• Keep records of sessions and maintain contact with SAVTE
